CHAD - Charlestown Against Drugs

About CHAD

CHAD is a coalition of numerous Charlestown youth-serving organizations that has been in existence for 20 years under the chairmanship of Peter Looney. CHAD ’s programs aim to prevent or reduce substance abuse in the community through educational initiatives that teach about the dangers of substance abuse and other health risk behaviors. These programs promote healthy growth and development of youth, families and community through drug avoidance, and supporting activities that encourage teamwork, cooperation, trust, self-reliance, and self esteem.

Initiatives

CHAD is in the process of establishing an awareness and educational outreach program targeted at Charlestown youth and parents. The program curriculum would be developed to target children (ages 5 –11), adolescents (12-18), and parents and guardians. (See CHAD newsletter archive at right.)

Because CHAD is, itself, a coalition of numerous groups, it is well-positioned to create and implement educational outreach. CHAD will require all youth-serving programs that receive funding from CHAD to require each participant youth and at least one of his or her parents to attend a forum or seminar, as a condition to funding.

Annually, CHAD sponsors the anti-drug march and collaborates with the Boys and Girls club for “Just the Facts Day.”
